I have no contact back home, no factories, no machines, no Orbot or Cubot, nothing. [Then again being without that blathering Orbot and the dumb-bot Cubot is a bit of a blessing.]

And if there's one thing you've got to believe, it's this: even if another dimensional portal opens up, there's no guarantee it'll send you back home. There's hundreds, no, millions of universes out there that they could lead to. If I can find out how the portals work, I can literally open the correct ones at any time and open a way home.
